Fun & Easy Halloween Craft for Kids: Haunted Houses!

Learn how to make this simple and fun Halloween craft for kids or adults!

Ya’ll, I loooove Halloween! I don’t know if it’s because it’s the kick off to the holiday season or the dressing up or all the sweet treats and crafts you can make, but in my house we’re always looking forward to Halloween!

My kids even had their Halloween costumes ready by mid-September this year, haha!

Check out this post for some great ideas for fun and easy family Halloween costumes!

And because I’m really a kid at heart when it comes to holidays, I love doing fun little Halloween activities with my kids. One of my favorites is making Haunted Houses!

Essentially, it’s just making Halloween “gingerbread houses.” We usually have a few friends over to share in this easy Halloween craft, and the kids always have a blast with it! Grown ups have been known to enjoy making their own Haunted Houses, too. 😉

First, you’ll want to gather your supplies:

bowls of candy and piping bags with royal icing set on a table
  • graham crackers (I like to use chocolate graham crackers, but any kind will do)
  • candy for decorating
  • royal icing (you can leave it white or dye it different colors); regular frosting won’t hold the houses together very well, but royal icing hardens fairly quickly so it’s really what you want to use for making houses; See a recipe here or buy a royal icing mix here.
  • piping bags
  • rubber bands to hold the piping bags closed (optional, but it helps a lot, especially when younger kids are involved)
  • anything else you might like to decorate with (cereal, Halloween sprinkles, candy eyes, pretzels, etc…)

Then simple set everything out so that everyone can easily access the decorations, give everyone a plate to build on, and go for it!

I love seeing everyone’s creativity as they all come up with entirely different houses!
